Piramal Pharma Solutions is adding a 4.3 MWp ground-mounted solar power plant at its facility in Morpeth, UK.
Piramal Pharma Solutions is expanding its carbon-reduction initiatives by installing a 4.3 MWp ground-mounted photovoltaic installation at its combined drug substance and drug product manufacturing site located in Morpeth, United Kingdom.
Upon completion, the system is expected to generate approximately 3,950 MWh of green electricity yearly, covering roughly 22% of the facility's total annual power requirements. Spanning 16 acres, the array will comprise around 6,200 solar modules and yield sufficient renewable energy to supply about 1,460 households in the UK annually.
Contractual arrangements for the installation are structured under a Power Purchase Agreement established with independent power producer and solar developer Alight UK BTM1 Limited.
The project is projected to prevent approximately 20,000 tCO₂e of emissions over a 25-year span, serving as a key milestone in the company's broader sustainability and long-term decarbonization strategy. By utilizing an onsite renewable generation model, the organization aims to boost energy stability and pursue a lower-carbon operational framework.
Frank Bugg, managing director and senior vice president of UK and Europe operations for the company, stated that sustainability principles are embedded across all decisions within the global network, noting that the collaboration with Alight advances corporate decarbonization goals while delivering value to stakeholders.
Commissioning and the start of facility operations are targeted for the first quarter of 2027.
In a separate corporate development from August, parent entity Piramal Pharma Ltd. secured a larger stake by acquiring an additional 40.67% interest in Yapan Bio Private Limited, a Hyderabad-headquartered contract development and manufacturing organization focused on biologics and vaccines.
