Nothing on SolarBazaar constitutes financial, investment, tax or accounting advice, and we are not authorised to give it. A solar installation is a significant capital decision, often financed, and usually assessed over a payback period of a decade or more.
Every savings, payback, return-on-investment, bill-offset or lifetime-value figure we publish is a modelled estimate. Those models are driven by assumptions that vary substantially from one site and one household to another, including:
- electricity tariffs, standing charges, time-of-use bands and future price inflation;
- export, feed-in or net-metering rates, and whether such a scheme is open to new participants at all;
- local solar irradiance, shading, roof pitch and orientation, and soiling;
- your consumption profile — how much of the generated energy you actually use on site rather than export;
- annual panel degradation, inverter replacement, maintenance and insurance costs;
- installed system price, which depends on your installer, market conditions and the equipment specified;
- grants, subsidies, tax treatment and financing terms available to you.
A small change to any one of these assumptions can move a payback estimate by years. Before committing funds, consult a qualified financial adviser and use written quotations from installers rather than our estimates.
