Egypt, UAE explore cooperation in renewable energy, battery storage

Egypt and the United Arab Emirates have discussed ways to broaden investment and collaboration within the renewable energy, battery storage, and electricity infrastructure sectors.

Mahmoud Esmat, Egypt's Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, met with Hamad Obaid Al Zaabi, the UAE ambassador to Egypt, at the ministry headquarters located in the New Capital to evaluate potential joint ventures in power and clean energy.

During the discussions, Esmat emphasized the contributions of Emirati firms collaborating with the ministry and its subsidiaries, specifically pointing to clean energy projects and initiatives aimed at diversifying Egypt's power sources.

Current collaborations align with Egypt's National Energy Strategy, which targets energy transition advancement, higher utilization of green power, and broader deployment of battery storage units.

Egyptian authorities have additionally implemented policies to stimulate private-sector involvement in wind and solar installations, storage assets, and grid reinforcement initiatives designed to boost the national electricity network's capacity for incoming power generation.

Esmat noted that Emirati businesses already participate in multiple electricity initiatives, emphasizing that private capital remains fundamental to executing the sector's plan as companies spearhead solar and wind developments.

In response, Al Zaabi pointed to the longstanding historical and cultural connections between the two nations alongside mutual priorities, stating that bilateral ties manifest through joint efforts across various sectors encompassing investment and trade.
