Construction has begun on Saudi Arabia's initial group of utility-scale battery energy storage developments. Battery manufacturer Gotion High-Tech has been selected to deliver a 6 GWh supply contract, supplying comprehensive storage technologies for three key installations across the country.
The deal represents Gotion High-Tech's entry into the Middle Eastern high-end energy storage sector. According to the company, the contract underscores the growing involvement of Chinese energy storage firms in supporting the regional transition toward clean energy.
Operating conditions in the Middle East present significant technical obstacles, including intense dry heat, severe sandstorms, and wide diurnal temperature swings. Because the installations will operate under a Build-Own-Operate (BOO) structure, the battery hardware must meet strict standards for durability, long-term operational performance, and system reliability.
To address these environmental and operational demands, Gotion High-Tech designed a custom integrated storage system tailored to the sites. The configuration utilizes the company's Qianyuan Smart Energy Storage System, which features high integration, high capacity, and an extended cycle life.
