A 25-megawatt solar facility in New South Wales' Riverina region is nearing full completion and preparing to feed electricity into Australia's National Electricity Market. The Mulwala Solar Farm project stems from a 2023 power purchase agreement jointly executed by technology giant Google, data center operator AirTrunk, and developer European Energy Australia.
The facility is designed to supply new zero-emission capacity to the regional power grid, assisting Australia's wider decarbonization efforts while furthering Google's objective of running its operations on uninterrupted carbon-free energy. The participating companies stated that the project demonstrates how expansion in digital and artificial intelligence infrastructure can actively drive renewable capacity additions.
