Yorizon Cloud, a European sovereign cloud platform, has revealed that a ground-mounted photovoltaic installation has been put into operation at its Yexio data center in Heiligenhaus, located in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
The solar installation was developed and built by Essen-headquartered construction company Hochtief through its subsidiary, Hochtief Solarpartner. The company stated that the system produces approximately 220MWh of solar electricity each year, with all of the generated energy being consumed directly by the data center facility.
Yorizon opened the Heiligenhaus data center last year with an initial IT capacity of 2MW, while the site has been designed to allow future expansion to 4MW. The facility is situated within the Heiligenhaus Innovation Park. Earlier reports indicated that the data center incorporates direct water cooling technology and was constructed primarily using timber to help lower the building's overall carbon footprint.
