Tata Power has received a Letter of Award (LoA) from the Solar Energy Corp. of India (SECI) to provide energy storage services from 324 MW/2,592 MWh of pumped hydro storage capacity at its 1 GW Bhivpuri Pumped Storage Project in Maharashtra.
Tata Power has been issued a Letter of Award (LoA) by the Solar Energy Corp. of India (SECI) to deliver energy storage services using 324 MW/2,592 MWh of pumped hydro storage capacity from its 1 GW Bhivpuri Pumped Storage Project located in Maharashtra.
The company has secured this Letter of Award from SECI for the supply of 324 MW/2,592 MWh of pumped hydro energy storage through its 1 GW Bhivpuri Pumped Storage Project (PSP), situated in the Raigad district of Maharashtra.
The allocation was made through SECI’s tariff-based global competitive bidding process, known as PSP-I, which was launched to procure a total of 1.5 GW/12 GWh of pumped hydro storage capacity across the country.
As part of the award, Tata Power will supply energy storage services for a period of 40 years starting from the scheduled date of commencement, operating under a predetermined fixed annual capacity charge along with the agreed cycle loss mechanism. Following the execution of pumped storage sale agreements with the purchasing entities, SECI will enter into a pumped storage purchase agreement (PSPA) with Tata Power.
According to the terms of the award, the company must begin providing the contracted storage capacity within 36 months from the effective date of the agreement.
The Bhivpuri project will be implemented under the build-own-operate (BOO) model and is designed to deliver eight hours of energy storage, helping ensure dependable electricity dispatch during peak demand periods. The facility will be linked to the 765/400 kV South Kalamb CTU Substation, which is part of the inter-state transmission system (ISTS).
