GoodWe has introduced its EO G2 Series single-phase off-grid inverter, a new product line developed specifically to withstand demanding operating conditions throughout Africa. Offered in power capacities ranging from 3 kW to 6 kW, the inverter provides support for up to 200% PV oversizing, seamless transfer in under 4 ms, and artificial intelligence-driven energy management capabilities.
The Chinese manufacturer of inverters and energy storage systems said the EO G2 Series has been created as a single-phase off-grid inverter platform intended to address unreliable electricity networks, repeated power outages, and restricted access to electricity in rural communities and other underserved regions across Africa.
The company said the new inverter family is aimed at homeowners, small commercial users, and community-level energy installations that need dependable backup power and off-grid electricity solutions capable of operating reliably in difficult environmental conditions.
“The challenge is no longer simply access to solar energy, but ensuring reliable power supply under real local conditions,” said Lucas Lu, Managing Director of Africa at GoodWe. “Energy users are increasingly looking beyond upfront cost and evaluating solutions based on their lifetime value, including reliability, durability, and ongoing service support. GoodWe’s EO G2 has been developed with these priorities in mind.”
The EO G2 lineup is offered in four different output ratings: 3.0 kW (GW3K-EO-G20), 3.6 kW (GW3.6K-EO-G20), 5.0 kW (GW5K-EO-G20), and 6.0 kW (GW6K-EO-G20). According to the company, these models are intended to serve a wide variety of off-grid, backup, and hybrid solar energy installations.
Performance specifications include a peak efficiency of 98.6%, a European efficiency rating of 96.8%, and a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) efficiency of 99.9%. Every model accommodates a maximum photovoltaic input current of 21 A for each string, allowing compatibility with high-output PV modules. In addition, the platform supports PV oversizing of up to 200%, helping maximize solar energy production throughout the system's operating life.
The 3 kW and 3.6 kW variants are equipped with one MPPT and support maximum photovoltaic input capacities of 6.0 kW and 7.2 kW, respectively. Meanwhile, the 5 kW and 6 kW versions incorporate two MPPTs, enabling maximum PV input capacities of up to 10.0 kW and 12.0 kW.
The inverter is designed to function across an MPPT voltage window spanning 50 V to 480 V. It supports a maximum input voltage of 530 V and requires a startup voltage of 60 V.
GoodWe said the new series incorporates an IP66-rated enclosure together with aviation-grade connectors, a fully sealed housing, a patented locking cover, and an enlarged sealing gasket to strengthen resistance against water and dust intrusion. The company stated that this gasket is between two and three times wider than those commonly used in conventional products on the market.
The EO G2 Series is certified for continuous operation in temperatures ranging from -35 C to 60 C, making it suitable for both cold environments and hot, dusty locations. It also includes Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) protection to detect faults in real time and rapidly disconnect affected circuits. Other built-in safety features include residual current monitoring, reverse polarity protection for PV inputs, anti-islanding capability, as well as Type III DC and Type II AC surge protection.
The inverter platform uses a nominal 48 V battery architecture and supports an operating battery voltage range of 40 V to 60 V. It is compatible with both lithium-ion and lead-acid battery technologies. In the 6 kW version, maximum continuous charging and discharging currents can reach up to 130 A.
According to GoodWe, pairing the EO G2 inverter with its Lynx A G4 low-voltage battery creates a fully integrated solar-plus-storage solution intended to provide long-term energy independence.
The company said the Lynx A G4 battery is capable of delivering as many as 10,000 charge cycles and a lifetime energy throughput of 53 MWh. GoodWe estimates this equates to roughly 18 years of service when based on a daily electricity consumption profile of 5 kWh.
The system additionally features a Mix Parallel Unit (MPU), allowing users to combine existing and newer battery modules while progressively expanding storage capacity. Customers are able to start with a 5 kWh battery setup and add more capacity later as their energy needs increase.
For applications requiring greater power, the EO G2 can operate in parallel with as many as 10 inverter units. Within a single energy management system, it is capable of integrating solar PV arrays, battery storage, diesel generators, grid-connected inverters, and smart electrical loads.
The manufacturer said that during a grid failure, the inverter can switch to backup operation in under 4 milliseconds, ensuring uninterrupted power delivery to connected loads.
The EO G2 is also equipped with a 4.3-inch touchscreen interface and comes with pre-configured operating parameters that simplify and accelerate on-site commissioning without requiring additional equipment. Built-in Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity provide support for remote configuration, system monitoring, and access through a mobile application.
In addition, the inverter incorporates five AI-enabled smart features—Agent, Health, Troubleshooting, Forecast, and EMS—that are designed to automate diagnostic functions, predict energy production and demand, and deliver real-time energy management capabilities.
