Canada's diplomatic mission has allocated 44,400 Canadian dollars to advance youth empowerment and sustainable economic programs in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Distributed via the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives, the financial support goes to the Scout Association of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines for an endeavor called SunRise Leaders: Powering Your Future.
The program targets at-risk and vulnerable young residents by equipping them with entrepreneurship education, mentorship, and technical expertise. Organizers intend to build reliable routes to leadership roles and jobs within the country's growing green sector.
Enrollees will complete a curriculum combining personal development with focused education in business administration and solar energy. Instruction covers conflict resolution and enterprise building, leading directly into practical work with solar power equipment and a supervised installation exercise to build employment readiness.
Through the creation of a trained pool of solar installation technicians, the effort seeks to assist the nation in achieving its renewable energy goals and supply dependable income for youth. An alumni network is also established within the program to maintain ongoing guidance, engagement, and assistance as graduates enter the labor market.
Brenda Wills, High Commissioner of Canada to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, explained that the project demonstrates Canada's dedication to building sustainable economic development and new prospects for youth. She added that providing young people with skills for the green economy promotes a resilient and sustainable regional future.
